Athleisure
The new street style is athleisure: to dress in athletic wear for the purposes of comfort and fashion.
Last years’ reports estimate the athletic apparel market to be worth approximately $35 billion to make up 17 per cent of the entire American clothing market – and this year we continue to embrace it.
We cannot thank the fashion gods enough for the move of trends from stiff collars to comfy sweaters. The look is casual but cool, with a touch of ruggedness. Here are our tips to creating a cool athleisure look!
- Sweatshirts should be made from lightweight fabrics and breathable knits. Details such as hoods and mesh panels strongly add to the athleticism. Generally these are slimmer cut for a more flattering fit. This Viper Hoodie from Tiger of Sweden is a classic hoodie with a twist featuring a longer body and asymmetrical zip.
- The jogger features the classic drawstring elasticized waistband and cuffed ankles, but the body is highly tapered for a stylish cut. There’s no denying the comfortable yet edgy look of these Cabin Fleece Pants from Wings + Horns.
- For the fluorescence runners, they’re not only for training purposes, but are also worn day in day out! Sneakers are best in monochrome from white to grey to black for a contemporary finish.
- Track jackets that were only classic for athletes are now staples for fashion. They now come in a variety of cuts and fabrications with cool colouring and sleek details. This Tally Pullover Windbreaker from Zanerobe is an excellent example.
