Bomb.

Formerly a heavy duty pilot jacket, the bomber has undergone drastic transformation as today's icon of street style.

What Is A Bomber Jacket?

Traditionally, the most identifiable features of a bomber is the ribbed detailing along the neckline, cuffs, and hem, and its standard waist length. However, today there are many modern variations, such as the addition of a hood, or a longline silhouette.

How should it fit?

As a military piece, bomber jackets were originally oversized to accommodate the layers of a uniform. While slightly oversized is still on trend for a casual look, a tailored fit is more versatile. The fit of the jacket should be similar to that of a tailored blazer – snug on the shoulders and slim through the sleeves and body. However, be careful not to go too tight as you’re going to want to be able to layer underneath.

What types of bombers are there?

The classic make is definitely leather, but the contemporary finish is undoubtedly nylon - both of which are perfect materials for the spring season. Wool, denim, and varsity are also new options available.

While the bomber usually cuts off at the waist, with the rise of elongated silhouettes comes new lengths.

How should I pair this?

Bombers look best when styled with monochrome or neutral colours. This lets the jacket make the statement and means it can easily be incorporated with whatever’s already in your wardrobe.

For a casual look, wear your jacket with a pair of distressed or ripped denim jeans. Balance the slightly oversized bomber with skinny jeans. For cooler days, team it with a sweatshirt or an open denim or plaid shirt. Finish with a pair of sneakers or boat shoes.

Despite the casual feel of the bomber, it can be replace your blazer yet retain a clean and smart look. Pair it with a button-up shirt and slim fit trousers. For a median, bring back an element of casual by wearing relaxed chinos, and simple leather trainers.

Sports luxe has been gaining momentum and has become one of the most stylish looks out there. Throw your jacket on over a long tee, polo or sweatshirt and pair with relaxed trousers such as joggers. Another way to wear this style would be to layer a hoodie underneath your jacket.
